When you sit in a room full of people working toward the same goal, you know you’re in for a productive and enlightening conversation. This was certainly the case during the Global Intellectual Property Center’s (GIPC) IP Summit last Friday, held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Mark Elliot, executive vice president of GIPC, opened the summit by explaining the tie between intellectual property protections and innovation, saying strong IP protection “allows people to take their ideas from mind to market to benefit us all.” Everyone in the room agreed, regardless of the industry they represented.
As we explored the innovation economy and how IP weaves its way through the fabric of our society, keynotes from Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Representative Mike Pompeo (R-KS 4th District) strengthened the policy conversation around patents, copyrights and trade rules. The cross-industry breakout sessions and subsequent discussions allowed for an eye –opening experience, as we learned the full range of IP’s impact on our world.
