Lilly has ties with the United Way dating back to World War I, when J.K. Lilly served as a member of the War Chest, a forerunner to today’s United Way. Over the past 92 years, Lilly has raised more than $245 million for the organization, with a partnership that continues to become stronger.
Last year, we raised a total of $12.7 million for the United Way—a record-breaking amount for both that organization and Lilly. A total of 605 United Way affiliates received money from the contribution.
This year, the goal is to raise $13 million in pursuit of creating an even bigger impact. This stems from Lilly’s continued commitment to making life better for people around the world, especially with partners like the United Way. Lilly works to deepen its relationship with the United Way through employee giving of both monetary donations and time.
Recently, Dave Ricks, senior vice president and president of Lilly Bio-Medicines, was named the United Way of Central Indiana’s 2015 community chair, allowing the Lilly and United Way partnership to grow within the Indianapolis community. Lilly was also recognized at the United Way of Central Indiana annual meeting by receiving two awards: one for being the top contributor in 2014, and the second for generating the largest increase in unrestricted giving. Lilly continually looks for opportunities to give, as with our annual Goodwill Clothing Drive and Backpack Attack.
“Working with United Way is part of our DNA at Lilly," Ricks says. "We’ve been partnering with United Way to make a difference in the community for several years. As community chair, I’m looking forward to helping impact the lives of children and families in Indianapolis.”
Lilly has been giving to the United Way for nearly a century, with each year bringing a new mission to meet an even larger goal. Join us in contributing to United Way in 2015. For every donation you give, you can make a difference for someone in need.
