Taking steps to improve the educational opportunities available to all of the children in our hometown of Indianapolis is a key area of focus for Lilly. In recent months, we have advocated for the growth of early education opportunities in our home city and advanced our partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools by joining the IPS Business Alliance.
Today, the Lilly Foundation is proud to announce a $1 million grant, payable over 3 years, for The Mind Trust, a nonprofit organization that strives to give every Indianapolis student access to an excellent, high-quality public school.
Since 2009, the Lilly Foundation has given $4.15 million in grant awards to The Mind Trust to support its work recruiting and empowering talented organizations and educators, launching and supporting high-quality schools, and engaging community stakeholders in conversations about innovation in public education.
Given the demands of the 21st century economy, it is imperative that more of our children in Indianapolis graduate high school prepared and motivated to pursue the post-secondary education necessary to be successful. The Mind Trust is one of the leading organizations in the country dedicated to this proposition by driving innovation in public education and attracting great people to serve with the most underserved schools. We are especially excited about their current work with Indianapolis Public Schools, and we will not rest until every child has access to a high-quality school.
