Yesterday, FSG Social Impact Consultants released their new paper, "Competing by Saving Lives: How Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Companies Create Shared Value in Global Health." To make significant and sustainable impact on a range of complex global health issues, we need a wide array of tools. Shared Value is a critical new concept and tool -- and we're using it to guide a good deal of our work in addressing global health challenges, such as improving diabetes care in developing countries. This new paper builds on the prior work by Michael Porter and Mark Kramer, and advances thinking on how Shared Value can be applied by and through our sector. Indeed, the authors note, "We hope that this study spurs leaders from the private sector, civil society, investors, and government in new approaches to addressing health problems through new management thinking, innovations in business models, and cross-sector collaboration."
