If you know me there are few things I like more than a good football game. Luckily, September ushers in my favorite time of year – football season. But this year, September also features Research!America’s annual National Health Research Forum. Similar to a huddle on the field, this event brings together key players in the healthcare industry for a conversation on the vital health research issues facing America today.

This year’s forum, “Straight Talk About the Future of Medical and Health Research”, takes place this Thursday and will look at how to develop winning strategies for the future of health research. The discussion will consider a number of different approaches including:

  • Taking a clear-eyed look at the positive and negative ways our nation uses research to advance our health priorities.
  • Considering how we can transform our current research system to help us tackle the urgent health care issues facing the nation.
  • Discussing how the biomedical research ecosystem improves public health and helps to deliver safe and effective treatments to patients.
  • Examinining how federal support for research in the health industry can help create an innovation-friendly public health strategy.

Lilly’s own Dave Ricks, Senior Vice President and President of Lilly Bio-Medicines and Bart Peterson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications will help represent some key perspectives at the forum. Other participating organizations include: National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Amicus Therapeutics, Duke University, Northeast Ohio Medical University and many more. Follow along with us for a play-by-play of the day as we live tweet the conversation and check back next week as we feature highlights from the day’s conversations.
