A new season is upon us! And I’m not talking about fall.
For Medicare-eligible U.S. seniors, the time for enrollment and plan selection is here. Every year, Medicare’s Open Enrollment period runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. But before seniors jump in to make changes to their current plan, here's a quick refresher on Medicare’s Open Enrollment process, including why Medicare Part D works — and works so well for seniors.
What is Open Enrollment?
Every year, open enrollment allows Medicare beneficiaries to update their plans, as needed. It’s also the time when newly eligible seniors can sign up to gain coverage. This six-week period is one of the few times during the year when seniors can enroll in Medicare. Seniors can use this critical window wisely to make the best health care decisions for them.
Where can Seniors Enroll?
Seniors can breeze their way through the enrollment process with the Medicare Plan Finder. Medicare, especially Part D, provides reliable, affordable insurance coverage American seniors can trust. Remember: Seniors have only until Dec. 7.
How is Part D a Success?
Since its inception, Medicare Part D’s beneficiaries have been satisfied with their coverage. In fact, three out of four Medicare participants opt for Part D — and give it a 90% satisfaction rate. Part D also offers beneficiaries more choices and increased access to the medicines they need to live longer, healthier lives. Meaning — most importantly — Part D saves lives.
According to a study published in the Journal of Health Economics, mortality rates among seniors decreased by 2.2% for each year Part D’s been in effect. With such a track record, it’s no wonder Part D is a resounding success.
So don’t wait another second, and help beneficiaries kick this new season off right. Encourage the seniors in your life to enroll in Part D!
