Good news from Thursday: Out & Equal -- the organization focused on workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender employees -- announced Lilly is one of four finalists for an "Outie Award," in the category of Workplace Excellence. The award recognizes employers that have an ongoing commitment to workplace equality -- demonstrated by "unquestioned leadership, dedication, and innovation on behalf of LGBT employees everywhere."
Joining Lilly as finalists are Google, Whirlpool, and Boehringer Ingelheim (which, by the way, is a partner in Lilly's diabetes business).
The news certainly underscores the company's emphasis on diversity. Said Selisse Berry, founding executive director of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates: "The finalists for the Outies are all people and groups who have done amazing work to make their companies places where LGBT employees are valued and welcomed. It is so important that we honor their commitment, celebrate their success, and then use their examples to inspire others to transform their workplaces."
Winners will be announced at the Out & Equal Workplace Summit during the last week of October. You can read more about the awards, including other categories, in the organization's press release. Until October, fingers are crossed......
